Saturday was a scorcher at
Riverside Speedway a PASS sanction speedway. The bright sun seemed to
leave some hot under the collar, on the track and in the pits. The Angels started out the
evening. The 7 of Kate Demar started on the pole, with the 00 of Ciara
McCoy outside. Demar took the lead and the 44 of Jennie Dion moved into 2nd.
McCoy turns it around into the front stretch wall on lap 3. Dion takes the
restart, then Demar regains. The 5 of Traci Nelson takes away the 3rd
spot. On lap 12 the 41 of Vanessa Brown overtake the 3rd spot.
Brown spins on lap 21. Demar takes the restart as Nelson moves into the 2nd
spot. On lap 23 the 36 of Allison Brown spins bringing out the yellow.
Once again Demar takes the lead, and Dion moves to 2nd. McCoy
tries lap after lap to get by Nelson, and finally on lap 33 she takes 3rd.
Demar takes the win followed by Dion and McCoy. The Street Stocks took to the
field next. The 29 of Chris Meunier started on the pole, with the 48 of
Tyler Barrows outside. Meunier took the lead and the 36 of Maynard
Bartlett Jr. moves to 2nd and 76 of Tori Delabruere moves to 3rd.
On lap 3 Delabruere overtakes the 2nd spot and one lap later takes
the lead. On lap 8 Bartlett moves to 2nd and the 06 of Michael
Moore takes 3rd. On lap 13 the 22 of Michael Smith bolts into 2nd
place. Bartlett tries valiantly to regain 2nd, but just can’t
do it. On lap 19 the 27 of Troy Randall moves to 3rd. On
lap 22 the 04 of Shawn Swallow and Moore get together bringing out the yellow.
Delabruere takes the restart, as Smith drops back quickly. Delabruere
takes the win followed by Randall and Bartlett. The Super Stocks rolled out
next, with the 8 of Denny Degreenia starting on the pole, with the 76 of Shawn
Hood outside. Degreenia took the lead, and the 74 of Dan Sidney moves into
2nd. The 55 of Jamie Longley has a tire blow, which sends him
hard into the 73 of David Ofsuryk Jr. Ofsuryk takes a hard hit into the
backstretch wall, with some major front end damage he is done for the night.
Degreenia takes a slight lead on the restart, but for 5 laps Sidney hangs right
with him in the outside groove. On lap 16 the 13 of Luke Shannon moves
into 2nd, and 2 laps later takes the lead. Jeff Fysh in the 33
overtakes 3rd on lap 23 and 2nd on lap 27. Shannon
takes the checkers followed by Fysh and Degreenia. The Late Models put on one
whale of a show, despite several cautions. The 20 of Charlie Rockwell
started on the pole with the 22 of Kyle Caron to his outside. Rockwell
takes the lead as Caron goes high and falls back. The 42 of Brian Greer
moves into 2nd, and the 36 of Howard Switser moves into 3rd.
Gene Leblanc, in the 7, spins on the back stretch on lap 8. Rockwell is
barely in turn 2 on the restart as Caron, the 2 of Reno Gervais, and the 51 of
Dave Simpson get together. Greer gets the upper hand on the restart as the
37 of Steve Mandigo briefly has 3rd place. On lap 20 the 76 of
Ryan Delabruere tries to sneak under Switser, but Switser shuts the door.
Delabruere then moves to the outside groove and makes the pass on lap 25.
The yellow flies on lap 28 as the Caron goes around in turn 4. Greer again
takes the restart and Delabruere moves to 2nd. Floyd Bennett in
the 90 moves into the 3rd spot, then takes 2nd from
Delabruere. On lap 31 Greer spins in turn 1. Bennett gets the upper
hand on the restart. On lap 35 the yellow flies as the 1 of Corey Mason
and the 98 of Owen Wimble get together. Delabruere takes the restart as
the 32 of Jeff Marshall moves into second, and Mandigo regains 3rd.
The caution flies again as the 15 of Bob Ailes Sr. and the 10 of Brian Mason get
together. Marshall takes the restart and the 3 of Mike Kenison moves into
3rd place. Marshall takes the win, with Delabruere taking 2nd
and Kenison 3rd. Just a side note, this was Kenison’s last
race as a single man. He is getting married next weekend to his longtime
girlfriend Kristy Collins. Good thing there is no Late Model race next
weekend, because even though she supports his racing, she wouldn’t let him
race on their wedding day. The Cyclones took to the field
next, in the 1st of 2 Bear Ridge Hornet/ Riverside Cyclone challenge
on the asphalt. As I have written before, an Enduro is hard to follow and
write. The most notable event of the race was on lap 4 as the 02 of Craig
Hurley rolled off turn 1. The car completely rolled back to its wheels,
Hurley refired it and continued on. The 20 of Charlie Rockwell won the
event, but was disqualified for shaved tires, giving the win to the 27 of Aric
Cole. Rounding out the top 5 were the 03 of Jason Kenison, the 41 of Jeff
Ainsworth, the 33 of Josh Lafleur, and the 3 of Andy Simpson. Join the fun next week, with the
Outlaws, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Daredevils, & Dwarf Cars. Post time
6:00 pm. Pictures and archived FANatic articles can be seen at http://racing.apcomptech.com
