Although rain threatened the races at
Riverside Speedway, a PASS sanctioned speedway, the rain held off for the
entire night. The Daredevils rookies and veterans each put on a flag to
flag show. Sometimes these kids seem to drive better than the seasoned
drivers. The Late Models struggled, with 8 cautions. The Street Stocks had
the point leader roll over. The crew quickly patched up the damage and he
got back out to finish the race.
The Daredevil Rookies started the
evening off. Stephan Donahue started on the pole, with Nick Miller
outside. Miller took the lead, as Nick Gilcris moved to 2nd. On
lap 3 Lyndsay Dawson moved into the 3rd spot and on lap 5 she
overtook 2nd, and took the lead on lap 6. Dawson took the win
followed by Miller and Gilcris.
In the Daredevil Veterans, Keith Lord
started up front, with Tyler Leighton outside. Lord took the lead, and Kyle
Pembroke moves into 3rd. On lap 3 Pembroke overtook 2nd.
On lap 4 Jesse Switser moved into 3rd. Pembroke takes the lead
on lap 13, as Brandon Lambert jumps to 2nd. Pembroke takes the
win followed by Lambert and Switser.
The Angels took to the field next.
They had 14 ladies showing up for the event. Cynthia Litvin started on the
pole, with Jen Terrill outside. Terrill took the lead. Traci Nelson moved
to 2nd on lap 2. On lap 4 Johanna Christman moved to 3rd.
Nelson moved to the lead on lap 5. Christman overtakes 2nd, and
Miranda Gervais overtakes 3rd on lap 7. Litvin has problems, and
limps the car around the track. Gervais gets into Litvin, ending her
evening of racing, with a hole in the radiator. Nelson takes the restart,
as Mary Eastman moves into 3rd. On lap 14, Jennie Dion overtakes
3rd. Vanessa Brown overtakes Dion on lap 20 for 3rd.
On lap 23, Shirley Ward, and Danielle Brigham get together sending Ward over
turn 2. Nelson again takes the restart. Terrill¢s car dies bringing out
the caution on lap 25. Nelson again takes the restart, and the win,
followed by Christman and Dion.
The Street Stocks were next on the
track. Brendon Hunt started on the pole, with Tom Sokolis outside. Hunt
took the lead, but then Tyler Therrien jumped into the lead, and Bill
Stebbins Jr. moved to 3rd. On lap 5, Andrew Fecteau hits the
front stretch wall, throwing debris that hits the flagman. Peter Marshall
filled in for the rest of the race as Shane Carr was checked out by medical
personnel. Therrien takes the restart. On lap 13, Mike Smith, Stebbins,
and Shawn Swallow all get together. Therrien again takes the restart. Alex
Theroux makes the pass for 2nd on lap 13. On lap 17 Swallow and
Sokolis tangle, sending Swallow into the dirt bank on turn 4, rolling the
car. Swallow is alright, and after a couple of quick fixes, get back on the
track just after the green flag flies. Therrien takes the restart. Cody
Hodge moves to 3rd on lap 24. Therrien takes the win followed by
Theroux and Hodge.
Allyn Briggs started on the pole for
the Super Stock feature, with Jason Kenison outside. Nathan Swallow spins
in turn 1. Kenison takes the restart. On lap 12, Swallow goes over the
turn 2 bank. Kenison again takes the restart, and Luke Shannon moves to 3rd,
then 2nd. The yellow flies on lap 15 as Jamie Longley and Jason
Rogers get together. Shannon gets the jump on the restart, but Kenison
regains, and Brian Gosselin moves to 3rd. Gosselin overtakes 2nd
on lap 22. Kenison takes his first Super Stock feature win, followed by
Gosselin and Shannon.
The Late Models were up next. Steve
Hodgdon started on the pole, with Brian Greer outside. Greer took the lead,
but Hodgdon regains as Jeff Marshall spins out. Hodgdon takes the lead on
the restart. On lap 4 Bob Ailes Sr. moved to 2nd, and Reno
Gervais overtakes 3rd. Gervais then moves to the 2nd
spot, and Bryan Mason moves to 3rd on lap 5. On lap 7 Hodgdon¢s
car backfires and shuts down, rolling to the infield, with a fire under the
hood. Gervais takes the restart. On lap 11 Grant Folsom moves to 3rd.
The yellow flies on lap 12, as Greer, Nathan Brown, and Donald Franklin all
go around in the middle of turns 3 and 4. Once again Gervais takes the
lead, and Folsom moves to 2nd. Lap 14 brings out the caution
again, as Corey Mason, Franklin, and Mark Baxter all get together on the
back stretch. Folsom and Gervais are nearly even on the restart, as the
yellow flies again for Baxter. Gervais takes this restart. Ailes goes
around and off turn 3 bringing out the caution on lap 29. Once again
Gervais takes the lead. Ailes again goes around on lap 31. The race
director decides to make it a single file restart. Gervais takes the win
followed by Folsom and Bryan Mason.
The Cyclones were the final event of
the evening. I have not seen the official finish, so the names may not be
correct. The 5 of Kris Russell started on the pole, with the 29 of Anthony
Mason outside. Russell takes the lead, as the 59 of Dale Bickford moves to
2nd, and the 3 of Andy Simpson moves to 3rd. On lap
11 the 20 of Charlie Rockwell moves to 3rd, and he overtakes 2nd
on lap 12. Rockwell takes the lead on lap 21. On lap 29 the 13 of Luke
Shannon moves to 2nd. Rockwell takes the win followed by
Shannon, Rick Utley in the 40oz, the 33 of Josh Lafleur, and rounding out
the top 5, the 88 of Anthony Hill.
